Each year, the Rioja Control Board selects eight wines to represent the Designation at its institutional events throughout the year. In the last selection, Marqués de Reinosa Crianza 2021 was chosen as the official Crianza red wine.
A total of 151 wines from 48 DOCa wineries took part in the blind tasting that was carried out to select the institutional references that the Control Board will use for its events. The tasting panel was formed by a mixed committee of experts from the sector.
An outstanding upbringing
Marqués de Reinosa Crianza 2021 is a wine that is ‘structured, tasty, has a pleasant tannic sensation and is very persistent’.
According to its tasting notes, it has a very well covered garnet cherry colour. In addition, the nose has a good aromatic intensity and a very gourmand nose in which the spicy, toasted and pastry tones from the barrel ageing combine very well with the notes of fruit, blackberry and plum, and balsamic aromas from the grape.
This is not the only recognition this wine has received. Decanter magazine has awarded 94 points in a report on Spanish wines made from Tempranillo red grapes. Specifically, Marqués de Reinosa Crianza 2021 obtained the highest score out of 110 wines tasted blind by a panel of three experts with a total of 94 points.
In this report, two important values shared by this selection of wines stand out. Experts say that only in Spain, especially in Rioja, can a selection of such high quality wines be made from wines that are affordable for all budgets.
In addition, Marqués de Reinosa tinto joven 2023 also scored very well with 91 points. A blind tasting that has shown the quality and versatility of our wines against a wide offer within the national territory.
At the centenary table
This year, the Control Board is facing a very important milestone in the history of the institution as it celebrates its first centenary. This implies the organisation of events and numerous commemorative acts in which Marqués de Reinosa Crianza 2021 will be present as the official red crianza of the DOCa.
Wine diversity
The eight wines demonstrate the great diversity of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin and are presented with the Council’s corporate labels, specifically designed for each of the categories.
